HUM115 Week 5 Applying Critical Thinking Reflection_template

Over the past five weeks you have learned about different elements related to critical thinking. You related the concepts to your personal experiences, and evaluated your critical thinking skills. You’ve identified fallacies, evaluated arguments, and learned the role of these concepts in your daily life. Now it’s time to apply the concepts together. In this assignment, you will review a real-world scenario and apply the critical thinking skills you have developed.

Review the Critical Thinking Scenario.

Write a 350- to 700-word reflection on the scenario, using the Reflection Template. Follow the instructions within the template to complete your reflection. You will need to include an introduction paragraph to introduce your reader to the topics you will be discussing; 3 body paragraphs, each with specific questions that need to be addressed within; and a conclusion paragraph to bring your paper to a close.

Note: The Reflection Template is already formatted appropriately, and you do not need to make any changes to the format. Be sure to demonstrate your critical thinking abilities in your responses to the questions, and ensure your paper flows well from topic to topic.

Locate an empirical research article that is either a quantitative or qualitative study from a peer reviewed social work journal for the final assignment. Download the PDF copy of the article.

Empirical research articles document a study that is either quantitative, qualitative or a mixed methods research design. When authors write an empirical research article they typically follow a format that looks like this: Introduction/Background, Literature Review, Methodology, Findings, and Discussion. The authors recount literature on their specific research topic and describe in a systematic manner how the data was collected and then analyzed in order to answer the research question(s). Once the data is analyzed, they present the findings. Finally, they interpret the findings using past literature to help understand the findings.

What we broadly describe as a “quantitative study” includes numerical summaries that involve descriptive statistics (averages, standard deviations), correlations, and inferential statistics (such as T-tests, Chi Squares and other kinds of analyses). These kinds of studies can include certain elements such as per- and post-tests or survey results looking at correlations between variables.

Qualitative articles, on the other hand, use interviews, focus groups, observations, and written answers to questions. Rather than using statistics to summarize the study, these studies look at themes and present the material using words, phrases and often paragraphs to illustrate what they are representing.

To prepare for this assignment, review Week 1’s readings and resources on how to locate an empirical research article using the library’s databases.

For this Assignment,

  • Locate an empirical research article that is either a quantitative or qualitative study from a peer reviewed social work journal for the final assignment. Download the PDF copy of the article.
    • Do not select an empirical research article that describes a mixed methods study. The reason is a mixed method study involves both a quantitative and qualitative component. You would have to do two reviews – one for the quantitative component and one for the qualitative component — for the final assignment.
  • Attach the PDF of the article to the assignment link. Your instructor will review the article to make sure it is an empirical research article and will evaluate it for approval for use in your final assignment due in Week 10.

The Me Too & Black Lives Matters movements surfaced the widespread nature of harassment and discrimination in the workplace.

The Me Too & Black Lives Matters movements surfaced the widespread nature of harassment and discrimination in the workplace.  It also shined a spotlight on the negative impact of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) on the perpetuation of harmful practices.  NDAs have been routinely included in separation agreements and in employment contracts and they limit the ability of current and former employees to say anything negative about a company, with few if any exceptions.

Take a look at these two case examples and then read through the articles listed below and tell us what you see as the ethical dilemma with NDAs and what you would propose instead, as a HR professional.

What is the Employee Value Proposition of Waffle House?

Do some inside research and see the what the Employee Value Proposition of Waffle House is.

1. At the start of your project report, provide an introduction that briefly introduces your organization and that gives the reader an overview of what you will be discussing in the rest of

the report(the project scope). Hint: cite information from your company’s website in this section if it is your main source of information… and don’t forget to do this in APA style.

2. Discuss 2 –3 concrete and real examples of the practices this organization has in place to support the employee value proposition. Explain the impact that you believe that EACH of these practices has on organizational outcomes(i.e. employee satisfaction can lead to higher productivity). In this section, you will need to use the resources that are provided by your employer. Note: Often times, this objective involves gathering information from your company’s Intranet or via informal interviews with colleagues / supervisors. You may need to include this information in the appendices of the paper –(i.e. screenshots or questions asked of colleagues). Please include a confidentiality clause on the title page of your project paper if you feel it is necessary. *Please see below for additional information on “irretrievable resources”.

3. Suggest 2 –3 additional organizational initiatives that your employer could potentially introduce and explain why these would be advantageous in your organization. Base these suggestions on what other similar organizations are successfully offering as EVP practices. You will need to do outside research for this objective and cite that research.

4.Discuss any examples of how your organization is currently measuring the return on investment of its current employee value practices(Objective 2)and how they are measuring this. For example, a common ROI is employee retention or employee satisfaction.Keep in mind that the ROI does not have to be measured in dollars and cents. If they are not currently measuring the ROI of the practices, provide an explanation or rationale for why you think this is.

5.Finally, give two examples of how your organization could potentially measure two of the EVP practices you’ve discussed in the paper (either for Object 2 or Object 3 above). You will need to do outside research for this objective and cite that research.

* Take a look at the attached rubric and guidelines to ensure that you will be able to do the assignment.

* This assignment is to be written in APA Citation.

  • Would Altex have been more interested in developing a risk management plan if the project were funded entirely from within?
  • How might the Army have responded if they were presented with a risk management plan early during the R&D activities?
  • Can risk management planning be justified on almost all programs and projects?

Your paper must be two- to four- pages in length (not including title and reference pages), doubled spaced, and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the approved style guide. A minimum of two sources, including the text, must be used to complete this assignment.

Write a two-page paper in which you take a pro-union or anti-union stance. Answer the following questions: Do you believe unions have a place in today’s workplace? Do you believe unions are the last line of defense against corporate greed? Do you believe that workers can only find power in numbers? Cite examples to support your opinion. (A 2-page response is required.)

What pay rate will you offer (using salary survey research as support)? What else may be included in the compensation package?

Shannon Albright has an accounting degree from a U.S. accredited university. She also became certified as a CPA (certified public accountant). Upon graduation, she was offered and accepted an entry-level accounting position at a firm in Atlanta, GA. She has been gainfully employed with this firm for the last 5 years. Recently she interviewed with your firm, which is located in Boston, MA. You, working for the human resources department, want to hire Shannon for your organization’s financial accountant position.

You know Shannon is a strong candidate, and you want to develop a competitive offer that will attract Shannon yet still fit within the company’s budget and compensation structure (i.e., considering both internal and external equity).

With this in mind, you are asked to prepare the offer for Shannon. The following will be included in this package and should be specific to Shannon and this situation:

  • Compensation package: What pay rate will you offer (using salary survey research as support)? What else may be included in the compensation package?
  • Incentive plan: What performance-based incentives does this offer include?
  • Benefits plan: What specific benefit plans does this offer include?

It is important to provide the necessary supporting details to explain the incentives and benefits being offered. The more details you provide, the better educated Shannon will be to make her decision to accept.

Along with these packages, you will include a 1-page cover letter addressed to your supervisor that outlines what you propose to offer.

  • This cover letter should explain and justify the compensation package, incentive plan, and benefits plan.
  • Make sure to discuss job location and experience level
  • Your detailed plans will then follow that cover page.

Using the Internet and library, locate all necessary information for constructing these 3 packages. This is a research assignment so be sure to include and cite your research within the paper using APA style.

Generate a Plan to Enhance Personal Supervisory Skills

Begin this assignment by completing the Personal Assessment of Management Skills (PAMS). The Personal Assessment of Management Skills (PAMS) is a tool that will help you gauge your level of managerial skill competence. The PAMS include rating scales on sections regarding self-disclosure and openness to feedback as well as an awareness of your values, emotional intelligence, change orientation, and core self-evaluation. Overall you will create a profile of your leadership competence.

Then, share your PAMS assessment to at least three people who are familiar with your leadership qualities- a supervisor, colleagues, direct reports, etc. Ask those you select to reflect on your leaders’ skills and provide feedback that will help you to become a more effective manager. Include their feedback as you develop your Personal Development Plan to enhance your leadership capabilities.

Now, based on the results from your PAMS, feedback from selected individuals, and what you have studied in this course, create a Personal Development Plan to improve your leadership skills. The plan should include goals, objectives, timelines, and necessary resources.

Be sure to specify the following:

  • Techniques you will implement to motivate employees and lead change, even when some oppose the change.
  • An interpretation of your role in organizational planning.
  • A critique of your skills in supervising a diverse workforce, indicating goals for improvement.

Support your assignment with at least seven scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.

Length: 12-15 pages, not including title and reference pages. Include a copy of your completed assessment with your paper. It is not counted in the pages required.

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards

PUA5303 Unit III Case Study

Instructions

You have assumed the head leadership position over a small department within a public sector agency. You have inherited a small but diverse team of employees.

Your staff consists of the following individuals:

Melanie has been with the organization for close to 10 years and spends much of her day surfing social media sites. She enjoys her job for the perceived job security and benefits but has little interest in pushing herself for additional monetary gain. When confronted about her social media use and lack of a desire to advance herself, she complains that she does not have anyone to “look up to” within the organization.

Patrick is the most senior employee. Although he has an excellent record, he is going through a very difficult divorce and is only about one year away from retirement. He has become increasingly preoccupied with these matters. Regardless, having previously served in the military and having worked public service for his entire professional life, he expects much out of himself and has expressed a keen desire to involve himself with your managerial decision-making processes as soon as he is able to sort out some of his home issues.

Tom, the newest employee, is fresh out of college. He is young and energetic, although not a week goes by where you do not catch him browsing salary surveys or private sector job listings; nevertheless, he is an overly productive employee, and he confides in you that he is worried that he is producing much more than his salary seems to reflect. He also questions the impact that the organization’s work and his own work, in particular, are actually having on anyone.

To complete this assignment, you will need address the components below.

  • Develop      a concise motivation profile on each of the staff members.
  • Correlate      motivational theories to this real-world scenario.
  • Summarize      leadership strategies related to such aspects as work life stages,      expected responses to rewards and punishments, and the degree to which      followers feel they fit the ideal motivation mold of public sector      employees.
  • Consider      how not being mindful of appropriate leadership strategies can be harmful      to organizations.

Your case study findings and recommendations should consist of no less than two pages, be double spaced, and be written in 12-point Times New Roman font.
