Consider the ways in which your family deals with life and death. Explain how your culture/religion and customs help to ease the transition of accepting a new family member (birth, but also adoption) and coping with the loss of a family member (e.g., through miscarriage or death). How did the readings help you to understand these processes? In particular, state your thoughts with regard to: a) whether or not to abort a fetus who has genetic defects; b) saving the life of a baby versus the mother during childbirth; and c) preparing a life will to address accidents/situations leading to you being on life-support (e.g., DNR). As another example, if you had cancer or were terminally ill, would you choose to die (rather than get painful treatment)?
