You’ve read many authors who argue that the United States has never been isolationist. Why is US isolationism in foreign policy a myth? In your answer, explain how the principles and conduct of early US foreign policy (pre-1898) contradict the idea of an isolationist foreign policy. Refer to specific statements by US presidents, including addresses and presidential doctrines, the history of US relations with other polities (including non-Europeans), and justifications for overseas engagement informed by US domestic hierarchies.

Answer this question in a three-page essay with an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Be sure to organize your essay around a single claim or thesis clearly stated in the introduction. Then, be sure that each body paragraph supports the claim with reasons and evidence.
