Objective: To experience photography in a Gallery setting. To help in improving your ability to discuss and critique photographic images.

Procedure: From the list provided (here) for this gallery review present a 3 to 5 page report discussing the work you experienced at an on the ground Photography Gallery. For this paper, be sure to include: who; what; where; when; why and how. Describe the pieces in the show as a whole and describe 2-3 images in detail. Use the principles of D.I.E.T. In your report

For individual images include such things as its size, color, and type of print. Then describe the subject of the picture. Is there a feeling of motion (dynamic or static balance)? Is it composed well? What is it about? What is the photographer trying to say? What does it mean?

If it is a group show describe the overall feel and whether it works as a whole presentation. Describe the Gallery and did you think the ‘installation’ of the photographs was done well.

Remember no copy and pasting from the internet. If you quote something include attribution (footnotes). If there is a website for the show, please include a link at the end of the report.

Note:

DO NOT go to the same gallery that you wrote about on Gallery Review #1.

This must be a Photographic exhibition, NO other forms of ART WORK.

If you deviate from the list of galleries, be sure to let your instructor know before you go to the gallery.

Avoid “Galleries” in malls. We are looking for classic galleries and museums.

If you quote anything from the show it’s self or the website of the gallery you must attribute the source of that quote, if not you will be penalized for plagiarism.

What to turn in:

• 3 to 5 page report in Canvas in the Vericite upload location. This must be in PDF format.
• In the second Assinment drop of this assignment Include a self-portrait of yourself outside of the gallery. (No photos of images in the show as this might get you thrown out of the gallery or museum). Self portrait must be submitted separately as the Vericite feature does not like images in the PDFs.
• Ticket stub if a ticket was purchased. This can be also uploaded with the self-portrait or in lieu of the self portrait.
