In Thank You For Arguing, Chapter 4 (38-46),Heinrichs introduces us to three important rhetorical tools: logos–argument by logic, pathos–argument by emotion, and ethos–argument by character.
For this assignment (due Tuesday, 3/26), you will read the article, “New Zealand’s Dealing With Its Gun Problem. When Will We?” by Nicholas Kristof, making sure to mark and annotate or take notes. Then, write a 2 page analysis in which you explain and describe how the author appeals to logos, pathos, and/or ethos (as discussed in the reading for today). Please organize your ideas into logical paragraphs and use specific examples from the text, making sure to quote carefully. Also, make sure to head your paper, double-space it and submit it to Blackboard prior to class on Tuesday. Bring in a hard copy to class.
