FINAL ESSAY TOPIC: SOCIAL MEDIA CENSORSHIP
Week 1 Discussion
Identify a global societal issue from the following list that you would consider researching further for your Week 5 Final Paper:
-Social Media Censorship is the topic that I choose to evaluate for my final paper I choose this topic because in the current state of the world social media is a force that is driving and changing the world around us. Although I am not a big social media can see how technology is changing and it seems to be the way of the world. People can get caught up in the negative aspect but there is positive to social media
Describe effective methods you used in identifying and narrowing down to just one of the topics to further research for your Final Paper.
-Effective methods that I used in identifying and narrowing down my topic was first thinking about which topic resonated with me personally. I choose to pick something that is close to me personally because I am more able to form a stronger base for my paper if I already have a viewpoint. I then looked through the Ashford Library for a list of articles that also support my idea.
Explain three ways you can critically analyze sources to determine if they are scholarly.
I can first look at the web domain to find out if it is a scholarly source. I can also check the about section or information section of a website to see if it is blog based or fact-based to find out where the information came from.
Summarize information from at least two scholarly journal articles from the Ashford University Library that will support your claims for your chosen topic.
Kluger, J. (2012). We Never Talk Anymore. The Problem With Texting Messaging. Times
As we enter the world of new advanced technology it seems to affect us all. There is very limited talking going on among families in which make us unaware of what is going on with each other. There is no more verbal conversation among individuals. Most children of today are so advanced with technology that even talking on a telephone seems instinct. Not only has this new technology affected the children but adults too have learned this new way of communicating. Most individuals are stuck looking down on their phones texting, looking at Facebook, or even checking emails, otherwise preoccupied taking selfies or posting pictures on Instagram or snap chat. If you want to know anything about my family or friends, just take a look at Facebook or social media accounts. Here you will find ones good, bad, happy or sad thoughts, emotions, and feelings. Social media may be a positive aspect of communication for some. You may have family or friend in far places where there is a time difference and may be costly to communicate via phone so social media helps with that. Staying in touch and connected is how they are taking advantage of social media. I think many abuse the social media when airing their every move for the world to see.

As many communicate via text I feel it does us a disadvantage because of the shortcuts we are taken when we text. We are losing focus of the English writing skills we so learned at had embedded in us as children. We are, shortening words using abbreviations or acronyms and incorrect grammar. This gives a poor perception of our younger generation and society as being incompetent or even may make one seem unprofessional. As earlier discussed texting is used as an anti-social device where one lacks the verbal communication skill or public speaking skill where you may become socially uncomfortable speaking or hold conversations with each other. Texting and communicating with printed words instead of voice can help decrease that anxiety while talking on the phone is more intimate and seems to be able to reduce feelings of loneliness.
One might feel they are less likely to be judged on their voice or mannerism or may even have a language barrier but texting a conversation may take place and no one feels any pressures (Villines, 2012). If they are feeling comfortable speaking via text a conversation may take place and then you may get to know the person well and understand them for who they really are. As one can see there may be some positive and negative outcomes with such advanced technology. One may use it to the fullest or one can easily abuse the service of intent.
Explain why scholarly sources should be used to support your writing on the selected topic.
Scholarly sources are important to use in your research because they have been peer reviewed and proven to be accurate. Scholarly sources are peer-reviewed, credible, and from established sources written by experts in their field.
