Quaterius My height is 71.5 inches. It has a corresponding z-score of 0.79. As I expected, I am within the normal range. I also thought that I would be “normal” because I am usually around the same height as the males I meet. My height is not considered unusual since it is within 2 standard deviations from the mean. Because of this, I haven’t experienced difficulties based on my height.  I work as an Army Recruiter. We use the concept of normality in determining the normal range of recruits in a given area around a given time. We also use this in processing the requirements of the recruits. Being on the higher end of the distribution of the processing time means that there is an inefficiency that needs to be addressed.  The normal distribution allows an easy understanding of variables since its characteristics are already established. Moreover, many naturally occurring variables are approximately normally distributed. Knowing what is usual helps people, corporations, and organizations plan accordingly. For instance, if a company knows that its standard processing time given its current capacity has a mean of 15 days and a standard deviation of 2 days, it will draft a contract with a client that is within the normal range. In doing so, the company is ensuring that it can deliver on the agreed commitment.

Consevella The average female height, I have calculated my z-score and the normal range as shown by the following: My height= 63.3 inches Mean height= 64.0 inches Standard Deviation= 2.9 inches Normal Range = 58.4 inches to 68.6 inches z= (x-µ)/σ z= (63.6-64)/2.9 z= (-0.4)/2.9 z= -0.15 or -0.2 inches My height calculations show me shorter than the average height females around, but still within the normal range of data shown. I was never really concerned with the average height for women were. The average height for a woman varies, depending on where she was born and raised. For a woman raised in the United States, the average height is currently 5 feet 4 inches. This was reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and applies to women over the age of 20. After gathering the information from the z-score, the average height for myself would be considered very close to that average height of African American women around. The average women are mostly considered shorter than the average males around. By having double, the X chromosomes is why women are shorter than men, as the men only have one, therefore balance is in a males’ height development. It is also said that the Y chromosome that is in men and absent in their female counterparts, helps in height and developments. Mostly all the women in my family are short so it’s considered normal for me to see the women shorter than the average men.  I’ve been considered short my whole life, so it doesn’t bother me until it’s time to reach on the top of the refrigerator or my cabinets in my home, I have to use a step ladder to reach certain things.
