This week, you will learn more about the Chinese railroad workers who helped connect the United States from coast to coast. The online exhibit is full of images, first-hand narratives, and other primary source material that document their experiences. Next you will learn more about two influential African Americans who started in the NAACP – W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington. Both worked toward the same goals for African Americans but came from different backgrounds and had different opinions on how to accomplish those goals. Lastly, you will take a look at how the 14th Amendment protects minorities and other marginalized groups from discrimination. It ties in a lot of what you have learned up to this point in the course, including immigration, the Chinese Exclusionary Act, and the treatment of Native Americans.
