First, listen to the BBC podcast from In Our Time titled “Evil.” Here is the link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p00547g3 (Links to an external site.)
Then, be sure you have listened to my lecture and read the selections from Nietzsche, St. Augustine and Solzhenitsy
which I added to this post
. These are short selections to give you a sense of how some theologians attempt to solve the problem of evil (theodicy), how philosophers think things through, and how other scholars engage with the topic.
Then, I am looking for a few things from your discussion. First, how do some theologians/philosophers/thinkers define evil? Make reference to Nietzsche, Augustine, and Solzhenitsyn, as well as how they relate to some of the other thinkers I mention in my lecture and the podcast. Which did you support and why or why not.
