Discussion Post: Assessment Tools

Discussion: Assessment Tools

Do you believe assessment tools are a hindrance (user error, false positives), or do they enhance a clinician’s ability to diagnose correctly? To support your response, provide an example of an assessment tool, and describe the tool’s benefits and challenges.

Below are four resources to use for the discussion.

Individual Programmatic Assessment: Disorder Paper

Select a neurological, psychological, or neurodevelopmental disorder.

Write a 2,450- to 3,500-word paper comparing and contrasting three therapeutic interventions used to treat this disorder. Compare measures of effectiveness, such as validity, efficacy, symptom and behavior management, and recidivism. One therapy should be cognitive in nature, one should be pharmacological in nature, and the third should be an alternative therapeutic treatment.

Identify common symptoms associated with your disorder and rates of symptom reduction or management as reported with the three treatments. Based on your research, what would be your approach to treating the condition? Identify which treatments you would use. Explain why.

Analyze the neurophysiological underpinnings of diseases and disorders.

Examine contemporary attitudes toward the three treatments you selected.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Include 7 to 10 peer-reviewed sources.

Discussion 2: Sources Of Knowledge

Social workers make decisions in practice settings based on different sources of knowledge, including their intuitionpersonal experiencestraditionauthority, and theories and research evidence. These sources of knowledge can be used together to contribute to decisions. Which source(s) of knowledge do you rely on? What are the strengths and limitations of each source of knowledge, and how will they affect your social work practice? For example, think about the sources of knowledge you used when you made decisions in your field experience. In this Discussion, you consider the sources of knowledge that inform your practice decisions.

To prepare: Complete the “Situations 1 and 2: Making Decisions About Interventions” handout. (Note: You do not need to upload the handout to the Discussion forum. The handout is intended to assist you in writing your Discussion post.)

By Day 4

  • Explain how and why your choices differed in Situations 1 and 2.
  • Evaluate when using intuition or personal experiences is advantageous in making clinical decisions. Provide an illustration of this from your fieldwork experience.
  • Analyze when using theories and research evidence is advantageous in making clinical decisions. Provide an illustration of this from your fieldwork experience.

PSY 325 Reaction Paper

Original work. Less than 20% plagiarism. Must be APA format.

n this module you will complete the virtual life portion of the project. You will begin with age 65 so that you may complete late adulthood. Please answer the questions below and be sure to include images.

1. Do you expect to have a sense of ego integrity or ego despair as you move into and through late adulthood? What might make you more or less likely to have a sense of integrity? Now that you have been through the exercises of later adulthood, what decisions might you have made either now or in your virtual past in order to cope differently with either negative or positive experiences you have had in your Virtual Life?

2. Write your own conclusion or obituary about your Virtual Life. What significant others in your life remain after you? What would you list as your meaningful moments or accomplishments, either those addressed within this Virtual Life course, or drawn from experiences not mentioned previously?

Discussion: How Theory And Research Are Connected

In this discussion, you will examine how Bandura’s bobo doll experiment informed the development of social learning theory. You will also identify limitations in the design of the study. You might be surprised to learn that the study has limitations due to its important and sustaining contribution to the field of psychology. Keep in mind that while most researchers strive to design the best study they can, no study is perfect. This is why almost every journal article you read has a specific heading or section dedicated to study limitations. Fortunately, the limitations of one study often result in several additional studies, which often address those limitations.

To prepare

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources on theory development, research, and Bandura’s bobo doll experiment.
  • Consider how research informs theory development and, in particular, Bandura’s social learning theory.
  • Identify the limitations of the bobo doll experiment and think about potential studies that could be conducted to address the limitations. (https://www.simplypsychology.org/bobo-doll.html )
  • Review several studies that interest you from the APA’s Research in Action web page. Consider how these practical applications could also inform theory. (http://www.apa.org/action/resources/research-in-action/index.aspx )

By Day 4

Post a response to the following:

Explain how research informs theory development using the bobo doll experiment as an example. Then, select one of the limitations of the study (listed on the Bobo Doll Experiment website) and briefly describe a study that could address that limitation.

Note: Support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and any additional sources you identify using both in-text citations and references. It is strongly recommended that you include proper APA format and citations.

  1. Choose one of the four arenas of identity formation (faith, vocation, politics or gender role).
  2. Within the arena you have chosen, describe some circumstances  from your adolescence that impacted your journey to identity  achievement.

What Is The Diagnosis For Kristopher

The Case of Kristopher

Kristopher is a 14-year-old boy who was recently accused by a female classmate of forcing her to have sex with him. He claimed that she agreed to have sex with him and then became angry because he went out with other girls. Kristopher is known as a bully and often fights with other students. He was removed from his biological mother’s home when he was 4-years-old because she was unresponsive when he was repeatedly abused by her boyfriend. Kristopher was adopted by his current parents when he was 7-years-old after he had lived in a series of foster homes. He was a known charmer. Despite his charm, however, he had difficulty controlling his temper and seemed to take pleasure in being cruel to other children and animals.

During the next few years, Kristopher’s adoptive parents tried to help him. They worked with the school to help him control his temper and provided him with therapy. However, his behavior became increasingly difficult to manage. He frequently lied and sometimes stole money from his mother. He began to spend time with other adolescents who were known to use drugs. His school performance, which had never been satisfactory, deteriorated even further. Soon after he was accused of the sexual assault, he ran away from home but was caught by police and arrested.
