Notes:

** Try to identify some of the following areas (as they might apply): Some areas to look at as you view culture.

a. How do people communicate with each other (e.g. they talk less than you would expect, they are more/less direct and/or loud than you think is appropriate, they express more/less emotions than you would expect, are they too candid, etc.)

b. How do people relate to those who are older than them or have higher status than them (e.g. they are too deferent in your opinion, or not deferent enough, etc.)

c. How do people relate to their family and community (e.g. are they much more likely to live their life according to their family’s wishes than you think is appropriate, do they care excessively about the opinion of family members/society, etc.)

d. Do male and female roles in the culture seem to be flexible or rigidly defined (e.g. how are women dressed, what is their role in the family and/or at work, are there strong expectations in that society about the roles of men and women)?

e. Other (e.g. social class distinctions, quality of life, do people seem happy, etc.)?

Implementation Plan For A New Economic Opportunity

Professional Context

As a Master’s level health care practitioner you may be expected to  create budget and implementation plans to ensure that economic  opportunities for the organization are rolled out successfully and can  be sustained over multiple years. Additionally, it is important to be  able to envision how an economic initiative could be used for different  contexts and purposes to keep the investment a viable and positive asset  to your organization or care setting.

Scenario

The senior management members have sent you their thanks and notes  on your feasibility study for your proposed economic initiative. They  have determined that your proposal has the potential to benefit the  organization in both the short and long term. The last step in this  process is to complete a thorough implementation plan for your proposed  initiative. This plan will need to include a budget of relevant expected  material, staffing, and capital costs over the first five years of the  initiative (see the Resources for some examples and guides about budget  planning), as well as projected earnings from the initiative for the  care setting. You must also include a plan and timeline for rolling the  initiative out, an analysis of how it may impact other aspects of the  care setting, an explanation how it can remain viable in the face of  environmental changes, and sufficient relevant supporting evidence.

Instructions

In your 7-8 page plan, you have been asked to be sure to address the following. Note:  The bullet points below correspond to grading criteria in the scoring  guide. Be sure your work is, at minimum, addressing each of the bullets  below. You may also want to read the scoring guide and the Guiding  Questions: Implementation Plan for a New Economic Opportunity document  to better understand the performance levels that relate to each grading  criterion:

  • Create a budget for relevant expected costs and earnings or  benefits over the first five years of your proposed economic initiative.
  • Propose a plan to roll out your economic initiative that will  enable your care setting to successfully implement it in an ethical and  culturally equitable way that will ensure achievement of quality or  service improvements.
  • Analyze how your proposed initiative, once implemented, may  impact other aspects of your care setting and ways in which negative  impacts could be mitigated.
  • Explain strategies you have integrated into your proposed  economic initiative that will ensure it can remain a viable asset to  your care setting in the face of dynamic environmental forces.
  • Justify the relevance and value of the quantitative and  qualitative economic, financial, and scholarly evidence you used to  support your recommendations throughout your plan.
  • Communicate your business and implementation plan in a logically  structured and concise manner, writing content clearly with correct use  of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Effectively support your plan and recommendations with relevant  economic data and scholarly sources, correctly formatting citations and  references using current APA style.

Example assignment: You may use the assignment example,  linked in the Resources, to give you an idea of what a Proficient or  higher rating on the scoring guide would look like.

Requirements

  • Length of paper: 7-8 double-spaced, typed pages (not including title page and reference list). Your paper should be succinct yet substantive.
    • Be sure to include a separate title page and reference list.
    • Your completed budget plan should be included as an appendix within your final submission.
  • APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style.
  • Resources: Cite a minimum of 3–5 authoritative  and scholarly resources. Be sure to include specific economic data and  support as part of your cited resources.
  • **I HAVE ATTACHED THE BUDGET PREPARATION WORKSHEET, WHICH ALSO NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED**

Health Care Organization Profile

In the role of a health care manager, for the final project you will develop and write a comprehensive marketing and communication plan for your fictitious health care organization. The final project will be divided into four parts:

  3. Marketing Plan
  4. Community Collaboration Plan

Part 1, “Health Care Organization Profile,” should include the following components:

  1. Name and type of health care organization (stand-alone, multifacility, multicampus, community-based, etc.).
  2. Mission, vision, and goals
  3. Bed number
  4. Type of services provided
  5. Volumes
  6. Quality indicators
  7. Financial performance indicators
  8. Human resource challenges
  9. Diversity issues
  10. Community population statistics

Ethics in health care date back to the times of Hippocrates

Ethics in health care date back to the times of Hippocrates. However, the importance of ethics was not fully appreciated in health research until after World War II. At that time, Nazi scientists performed brutal medical experiments on concentration camp prisoners. These experiments included research on hypothermia, high altitude, seawater, sulfanilamide, and tuberculosis (Cohen). Hundreds of prisoners died in these experiments. Yet the scientific data generated from the experiments has contributed significantly to advancing the science of medicine. To this day, many researchers continue to struggle with ethical questions over the use of the Nazis’ experimental data. How does one balance ethics with the greater public good?

For this Discussion, review the focus on the case studies presented in the article  by Osrin, et al., “Ethical Challenges in Cluster Randomized Controlled Trials: Experiences From Public Health Interventions in Africa and Asia.” Consider the ethical issues in conducting epidemiological research in developing countries and how they might influence the implementation of public health strategies. Finally, think about how you might balance ethical use of epidemiological data and the need to protect your community.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post an explanation of the ethical issues illustrated in the article(ATTACHED). Imagine that you obtained secondary epidemiological data that support a policy change that may positively impact your community. Now, you learn that the data were obtained unethically. Explain what action you might take. Support your position using scholarly resources.

Discuss in detail some of the ethical issues and moral disputes in each state’s reform.

Healthcare Reform in Two States

Description

Part I: The world is becoming smaller and smaller and when companies look to expand they often look outside their original footprint. Rasmussen Healthcare Systems is looking to expand their system to another state. To help advise Rasmussen on this decision, you will write 3-4 pages that compare and contrast the healthcare reform policies of the state where you reside and another state of your choice. Please keep in mind the position and facility you selected. Make sure to include the following:

States IL -primary   2nd state: Virginia

  1. Discuss the purpose of each state’s reform.
  2. Describe a minimum of three specific examples of similarities and differences in healthcare reform policies in the two states.
  3. Discuss in detail some of the ethical issues and moral disputes in each state’s reform.
  4. Discuss your recommendation on whether Rasmussen Healthcare Systems should expand to the second state.
  5. This portion of your assignment will require you to research and examine information from various sources. Use a minimum of five credible sources for your paper, with three being an academic source from the Rasmussen College Online Library (don’t forget to include in-text citations throughout your paper with paraphrasing or quoting).
  6. Make sure to include your APA formatted reference page.

Project: Coaching

Coaching Session 2

People often seek the assistance of coaches for support when they are trying to make positive changes in life. These changes can be as simple as arriving at work on time each day or more complex objectives encompassing time or life management, motivation, decision making, lifelong learning, and behavior modification.

Week 3 Assignment

Last week, you helped your coachee identify a couple of professional objectives and the importance of those objectives. This week, continue to discuss with your coachee the relevance of the objectives you have identified as priorities. What short-term and long-term benefits might your coachee realize when these objectives are achieved? Is your coachee facing any challenges, roadblocks, or resistance? Is your coachee fearful or resistant, on any level, to make changes necessary to achieve these objectives? What does the coachee need to do to overcome the challenges, fear, or resistance?

As you ask meaningful and thought-provoking questions, gently guide your coachee to the answers that lie within. Avoid directing your coachee or offering solutions before the coachee has had ample time to explore and develop answers and solutions. The focus of this week’s session is not on developing action plans to achieve the objectives. Rather, it is to assess the things that might prevent the coachee from achieving them.

For this second coaching session, submit a coaching report that provides the following information:

  • Recap the coaching session (1 to 2 pages)
    • Where did the session occur?
    • When did it occur?
    • Who was being coached?
    • Who was the coach?
    • Summarize the conversation. Who said what?
    • Any key details about the relationship or interaction that need to be recorded? (e.g., impressions, difficulties, opportunities, things that were missed, things to explore in the future, boundaries, parameters, etc.).
  • Analyzed the short- and long-term benefits to the coachee for achieving the objectives (½ to 1 page).
  • Assessed the challenges, resistance, and fears that might prevent the coachee from achieving the objectives (½ to 1 page).
  • Assessed what the coachee might need to do to overcome the challenges, resistance, and fear (½ to 1 page).
  • Clarify the action steps that you (as coach) need to complete prior to the next coaching session. For example, what information do you need to research? What resources do you need to locate? What follow ups do you need to complete? What skills do you need to refine? (¼ to ½ page).

The Role Of Agencies And Organizations In Public Health Policy

Public health policy highlights needs and gaps in public health. Understanding policy development is a critical skill for epidemiologists. Policy is developed through a rigorous and dynamic process involving a balance between epidemiological data, strength of evidence, values, costs, ethics, and politics. Government agencies, organizations, politicians and policy makers, funding agencies, and public health professionals are all involved in the process.

Implementing public health policy is often formal and structured. Epidemiological data help stakeholders understand health issues and priorities. As policy is developed, stakeholders are involved in carrying out the process and allocating resources.

For this Discussion,  consider how epidemiological data might influence the development of public health policies. Using the  Internet find an example of how epidemiological data has been used to develop a public health policy. Consider how the different stakeholders involved in the design and implementation of the example you selected used epidemiological data.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post a brief explanation of an initiative in which epidemiological data had been used to develop a policy. Describe the stakeholders that were involved in designing and implementing this policy. Then give two examples of how the epidemiological data was used in the design and implementation of the policy. Support your post using scholarly resources.

Describe something positive that could result from addressing the conflict within the office.

A. Suppose you have been working in a healthcare position for almost two years. The office recently hired a medical records technician (Kim).  Kim is very opinionated and does not hold back when she has something to say.  But Kim is also bright, energetic, and has a lot of good ideas.  You can see that she has a lot of potential. You can also see that many of the other office employees are uncomfortable around Kim.  You quickly realize that you need to learn more about conflict management and resolution…

Watch this short VIDEO to get tips on managing conflict.

1. Choose one of the tips from the video and describe why it might be useful in resolving the conflict in the Discussion Overview.

2. Describe something positive that could result from addressing the conflict within the office.  Explain your reasoning.

3. It’s almost certain that you will encounter conflict at some point in your professional career.  What do you believe is the most important thing to do when faced with conflict? Explain why.

B. Once you begin your career in the allied healthcare field, you will work as a member of many different teams.  Team dynamics exist in all group settings, no matter how large or small the organization.  The dynamics of the team – how a team works and behaves together – will impact a great many things: the success of the organization; individual performance; the reputation of the organization; and an individual’s feeling of contentment or satisfaction with their job.

Click HERE to see two different teams in action.

1. What are the pros and cons of working in groups and teams?

2. Why do you think the second team was successful when the first team wasn’t?  Describe some of the factors that affected team dynamics positively or negatively.

3. In your opinion, what is the most important characteristic, trait, or quality that a successful team possesses?  Support your answer with information or observations from this week’s lessons.

Imagine that you have just started a job in a healthcare office. Your new manager (Sharisse) has a detailed orientation plan for your first week.  Your new colleagues are great.  They are helpful and welcoming.  You notice that everywhere you go people ask if you’ve been to lunch with Sharisse yet.  Sharisse hasn’t mentioned lunch at all, so you are curious.  Over and over, people ask about lunch and smile knowingly.  You are intrigued, but you’re starting to wonder if she’s forgotten.  Finally, on Friday morning Sharisse invites you to lunch.  You are excited and nervous at the same time.  You arrive to the restaurant and are seated.  Her first question is:

“So, tell me, what motivates you?”

Really?  That’s what all the excitement was about?

1. Explain why the question of motivation is important for all supervisors and employees to discuss?

2. Based on personal experience and information from this week’s materials, what is the connection between motivation and job satisfaction, or between motivation and performance?

3. Do you believe your motivation and performance in the workplace will be based on internal, external, or individual job satisfaction considerations?  Support your answer with information from this week’s modules and readings.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Analyze the factors that are influencing the demand and supply of health care services in the U.S.
  • Compare and contrast the U.S. health care system with the health care system of other countries.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in health economics.
  • Write clearly and concisely about health economics using proper writing mechanics.

Identify An Issue From The Interview That Could Be Improved With An Interdisciplinary Approach

As a baccalaureate-prepared nurse, your participation and leadership in interdisciplinary teams will be vital to the health outcomes for your patients and organization. One way to approach designing an improvement project is to use the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement describes it thus:

The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle is shorthand for testing a change in the real work setting—by planning it, trying it, observing the results, and acting on what is learned. This is the scientific method adapted for action-oriented learning…Essentially, the PDSA cycle helps you test out change ideas on a smaller scale before evaluating the results and making adjustments before potentially launching into a somewhat larger scale project (n.d.).

You might also recognize that the PDSA cycle resembles the nursing process. The benefit of gaining experience with this model of project design is that it provides nurses with an opportunity to ideate and lead improvements. For this assessment, you will not be implementing all of the PDSA cycle. Instead, you are being asked to interview a health care professional of your choice to determine what kind of interdisciplinary problem he or she is experiencing or has experienced in the workplace. This interview, in Assessment 2, will inform the research that you will conduct to propose a plan for interdisciplinary collaboration in Assessment 3.

Demonstration of Proficiency

  • Competency 2: Explain how interdisciplinary collaboration can be used to achieve desired patient and systems outcomes.
    • Summarize an interview focused on past or current issues at a health care organization.
    • Describe collaboration approaches from the literature that could be relevant in establishing or improving an interdisciplinary team to address an organizational issue.
  • Competency 3: Describe ways to incorporate evidence-based practice within an interdisciplinary team.
    • Identify an issue from an interview for which an evidence-based interdisciplinary approach would be appropriate.
  • Competency 4: Explain how change management theories and leadership strategies can enable interdisciplinary teams to achieve specific organizational goals.
    • Describe change theories and a leadership strategy that could help develop an interdisciplinary solution to an organizational issue.
  • Competency 5: Apply professional, scholarly, evidence-based communication strategies to impact patient, interdisciplinary team, and systems outcomes.
    • Communicate with writing that is clear, logically organized, and professional, with correct grammar and spelling, using current APA style.

Professional Context

This assessment will introduce the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) Model to create change in an organization. By interviewing a colleague of your choice, you will begin gathering information about an interprofessional collaboration problem that your colleague is experiencing or has experienced. You will identify a change theory and leadership strategies to help solve this problem.

Scenario

This assessment is the first of three related assessments in which you will gather interview information (Assessment 2); design a proposal for interdisciplinary problem-solving, (Assessment 3); and report on how an interdisciplinary improvement plan could be implemented in a place of practice (Assessment 4). At the end of the course, your interviewee will have a proposal plan based on the PDSA cycle that he or she could present to stakeholders to address an interdisciplinary problem in the workplace.

For this assessment, you will need to interview a health care professional such as a fellow learner, nursing colleague, administrator, business partner, or another appropriate person who could provide you with sufficient information regarding an organizational problem that he or she is experiencing or has experienced, or an area where they are seeking improvements. Consult the Interview Guide [DOCX] for an outline of how to prepare and the types of information you will need to complete this project successfully.

Remember: this is just the first in a series of three assessments.

Instructions

For this assessment, you will report on the information that you collected in your interview, analyzing the interview data and identifying a past or current issue that would benefit from an interdisciplinary approach. This could be an issue that has not been addressed by an interdisciplinary approach or one that could benefit from improvements related to the interdisciplinary approach currently being used. Additionally, you will start laying the foundation for your Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal (Assessment 3) by researching potential change theories, leadership strategies, and collaboration approaches that could be relevant to issue you have identified.

When submitting your plan, use the  Interview and Issue Identification Template [DOCX], which will help you to stay organized and concise. As you complete the template, make sure you use APA format for in-text citations for the evidence and best practices that are informing your plan, as well as for the reference list at the end.

Additionally, be sure to address the following, which corresponds to the grading criteria in the scoring guide. Please study the scoring guide carefully so you understand what is needed for a distinguished score.

  • Summarize an interview focused on past or current issues at a health care organization.
  • Identify an issue from an interview for which an evidence-based interdisciplinary approach would be appropriate.
  • Describe potential change theories and a leadership strategies that could inform an interdisciplinary solution to an organizational issue.
  • Describe collaboration approaches from the literature that could facilitate establishing or improving an interdisciplinary team to address an organizational issue.
  • Communicate with writing that is clear, logically organized, and professional, with correct grammar and spelling, and using current APA style.

Additional Requirements

  • Length of submission: Use the provided template. Most submissions will be 2 to 4 pages in length. Be sure to include a reference page at the end of the plan.
  • Number of references: Cite a minimum of 3 sources of scholarly or professional evidence that support your central ideas. Resources should be no more than 5 years old.
  • APA formatting: Make sure that in-text citations and reference list follow current APA style.
