Discipline-Based Literature Review

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, watch the video PSY620 Scholarly Resources and review the PSY620: Analyzing and Citing Scholarly Articles.

Video Transcript

Learning and cognition is a broad discipline. For this Discipline-Based Literature Review, you will research at least two peer-reviewed articles published within the last ten years to support your analysis of each of the following topics:

  • Operant conditioning
  • Classical conditioning
  • Behaviorism
  • Social learning theory

When conducting your research, consider the issues that arise within these different disciplines. In your analysis of each topic, explain the theoretical perspectives and empirical research that are pertinent to the field of learning and cognition. Within this analysis, apply ethical principles to the evaluation of each theoretical approach and consider issues that arise in research related to that area. Support your statements with evidence from your selected articles.

Discussion Criminal Justice

Discussion topics support this unit’s objective and should be completed after reading all materials. Your responses ought to include original evaluation, synthesis, or analysis of the topic, and contribute to the weekly discussion in a meaningful way. You must complete all discussion topics and reply to your peers’ posts. Refer to the Discussion Board Rubric under Course Resources for additional requirements.

Read the following article.

Hendrie, Edward M. (1997, Mar.). Beyond miranda. FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, 3(66), 25–32. Retrieved fromhttps://search-proquest-com.lib.kaplan.edu/central/docview/204120664?accountid=34544

Law enforcement agents can, and do, question citizens suspected of committing a crime, but they cannot conduct an interrogation before ensuring that the suspect is protected against self-incrimination. Courts have prohibited physically coercive techniques when questioning suspects (Brown v. Mississippi). The privilege against self-incrimination does not prevent officers from using psychologically coercive techniques to elicit confessions as long as the suspect is informed of his or her rights prior to custodial interrogation (Miranda v. Arizona).

Discussion Topic: The Miranda Decision

Consider each of the rights statements that make up the Miranda decision. Are there any “rights” that you would add to, or remove from, the Miranda rights? If so, what would they be? Use research to substantiate your thoughts and cite your sources using APA formatting.

Advanced Psychopathology – Examination

 Begin Final Exam
The Final Exam consists of eight (8) Essay questions. Use the reading  assignments thoroughly in an integrative discussion of your own understanding  of the questions posed. Remember to reference all work cited or quoted  by the text author. You should be doing this often in your responses. If you use outside resources, they should support the text information, but not replace the text.
All discussions must take into account the legal and ethical  considerations, as well as issues of culture and human diversity that  may pertain to the questions below.  Legal and Ethical information  is in Chapter 16 of the course text. Cultural information is covered  throughout the course text and DSM 5. You may use alternative cultural  resources to enhance your work.
Your response to each question should be approx. 1 page per question.
Your total assignment should be 8-9 pages plus a title and reference page.
Due Week 8
1.  What is meant by the notion that mental illness is a social  construction? How does cross-cultural research suggest that  psychopathology is universal rather than a social construction?
2.  It is widely recognized that people with autism spectrum disorder  display deficits in communication and social behavior. It is perhaps  less often noted that in some areas, their abilities may surpass those  of people without autism spectrum disorder.  What is your understanding  if this theory? How do the enhanced abilities of those with autism  spectrum disorder lend credence to an evolutionary approach to  psychopathology?
3.  Phrases such as “broken hearts” and “hurt feelings” liken emotional  pain to physical pain. To what extent is the metaphor implied in these  phrases supported neuroscientifically?
4.  The role of trauma and the experience of unusual states of awareness  or identity in the dissociative disorders have led psychologists to  explore the relationship between dissociation and post-traumatic stress,  on the one hand, and hypnosis, on the other. Briefly summarize the  results of this research.
5.  Discuss some of the reasons why the treatment of substance-related  and addictive disorders is especially challenging. Addiction to  methamphetamine is particularly difficult to treat. Review some of the  cognitive deficits seen in methamphetamine addiction and explain how  these deficits complicate efforts to treat the addiction.
6.  Outline the neurodevelopmental hypothesis of the etiology of  schizophrenia. In what way does schizophrenia represent a paradox from  an evolutionary standpoint?
7.  Discuss the evidence for genetic and environmental contributions to  personality disorders. Identify the specific experiences that seem to  underlie personality disorders. Which personality disorder seems the most genetic?
8. Highlight the beneficial effects of physical exercise not only on  preventing cognitive impairment among older adults without  neurocognitive disorders but also on reversing decline among those with  mild neurocognitive impairment.

WEEK 6 FORUM PYSC 502 COMPETENCY

MINIMUM 400 WORD

MUST LIST REFERENCES

Imagine you are a forensic psychologist conducting an evaluation of an individual’s competency to stand trial. In your testing battery, you are considering the following tests: California Psychological Inventory, 16 Personality Factors (16PF), Minnesota Multiphasic Inventory- II (MMPI-II), Rorschach Inkblot Test and the Thematic Apperception Test. Of the tests listed, which would you include? Integrating examples and ideas from your readings and research this week, explain your position. What are the advantages and disadvantages of projective techniques for measuring personality, and how do they compare with personality inventories in this respect?

Case Study And Assessments From MMY

From the Learning Resources handout, identify two assessments in the MMY (Mental Measurements Yearbook) that you think would best provide information for you to consider exploring with this client.

Case Background: Tracey is a 25 year old divorced woman and has been divorced for a year now. Her ex husband was abusive and she now has full custody of her daughter. She has little to no time for herself because she is too busy taking care of her daughter as a single parent. Tracey experiences extreme anxiety since the divorce but never took time to focus on it because she simply only has time to focus on what her child needs. Tracey only has a short time to herself and that is when she puts her daughter to sleep. During this down time, Tracey eats uncontrollably. She has even gained weight due to the unhealthy habit. Tracey even shares that she prefers to stay home and eat versus going out with family or friends.

Search key words of possible diagnoses such as anxiety, eating disorder, depression, etc. into the MMY search box and it will provide many articles of assessments to choose from.

By Day 3 of Week 7

Post your assessment selections and reasons why you selected these assessments. What would be the pros and cons of using each? Which would you select for this client?

References:

The references will be the articles of which you chose for the assessments. There is a “cite” option to the right of page. You will choose the APA citing format.

Essay 2 Questions

In Modules/Weeks 3, 6, and 8, you will provide answers to 4 specific essay questions found in the documents above. Each essay must be at least 2 pages—roughly half a page per question. Answer the questions using the concepts from the lessons and reading assignments. You may use any books, notes, or materials, but you must do the work alone. There is no need to retype the questions in your essay, but you should continually refer back to each to ensure that you stay on topic.

Essay 2 Questions

Answer these questions in essay format, using the instructions provided in the Assignment Instructions folder. Review the Essay 2 Grading Rubric to see how your essay will be graded.

1. Think of a class outside of your major. Using the Gestalt principle, “The whole is greater than the sum of the parts,” describe your preconceived perception of the class, 3 details that you now know are different from that initial perception, and your continuing perception in spite of the details.

2. In church and in other settings, announcements are made that affect you. Label and describe 4 techniques covered in the textbook which the speaker could use to keep your attention.

3. You have gone through stages of Piaget’s cognitive development, in your professional beliefs and in your theological beliefs. Name and trace the development of any 1 of your beliefs through all 4 stages. Give at least 1 specific characteristic for each stage and use terms from Piaget’s theory. Though you may not remember your cognitive development at every stage, trace what must have happened to you in each stage to allow your current functioning. In relation to this belief, what is the best stage for you to be in now, and why?

4. Think of classes in your major. Name 3 concepts from Vygotsky’s theory and provide examples of how they could help to boost your zone of proximal development (ZPD) for learning in those classes.

For number 4- My major is Addiction Recovery

Challenges In Micro Work

ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETELY ORIGINAL AS IT GOES THROUGH A TURNITIN PROGRAM

Working effectively with individuals means building relationships. As a social worker, there are certain qualities, such as empathy, warmth, and genuineness, that help you develop rapport with clients. However, even when you appropriately utilize your micro skills, rapport building can be difficult with some clients. Challenges may include client hostility, silence, a request for self-disclosure, or the necessity of using confrontation. Social workers need to develop skills to appropriately work through these challenges.

For this Discussion, you begin developing these skills through practice and analysis of practice.

To prepare: Watch the Parker video. In the video, the clients express hostility toward each other, as well as toward the social worker. In addition, Stephanie asks the social worker for self-disclosure when she asks, “Wouldn’t you?” and “You really think you can fix that?” The scene ends with the client and social worker falling into silence. Consider the challenges depicted in the video. How would you respond?
