An internal method is leadership throughout the military community. The commander of the hospital plays a very small role in my EBP project while talking to the local Generals and their spouses is really where I needed to focus on influencing and getting the buy in. My external method is with the Airman Family Readiness Center (AFRC) and wounded warrior’s organization that has a small office within the AFRC. Wounded Warriors has a program that the spouse and military veteran can go on a weeklong trip out with other couples to work on their recovery progress. This trip is paid by Wounded Warriors and it is a great way for couples to face their relationship and tackle the issues associated with PTSD. Wounded warrior’s organization is hiring more nurses as well to help in different avenues of their organization which is great.

Uniting this both methods help to integrate how we approach recognizing PTSD and getting the right help for the PTSD member. Military members and their spouses may not look to the hospital for help, they may look to their chaplain or family counselor which is part of the AFRC program. The military community is unique in how it operates and each base is also unique in how it takes care of things and which focus is more important. PTSD is not as important here because the mission is different, not too many members deploy here so the hospital and mental health do not see a lot of patients but they forget the military is transient and those coming in from long deployments are now having to face the issues they put aside. Communication strategies are the same for both places, in that placing the importance of the spouse should be foremost on their minds as well. My communication with the hospital just has to go higher in the ranks than the AFRC and wounded warrior.
