Create a genogram of your own family system going back two generations (to your grandparent’s generation), and forward as far as has existed (e.g., you children, and, where possible, your grandchildren). Be sure to include instances where family information is lacking as this information is as important as what you do know.

Based on the information collected when doing the genogram, write a 700-1,050-word paper to accompany your genogram describing your findings. Include or address the following in your genogram and paper:

1. Information about the eldest family member as well as their contribution to the interactional patterns.
2. Any information about your family that is not represented on the genogram that you feel would be helpful to know such as cultural factors or the level of assimilation.
3. Multigenerational patterns. Note the origin of pattern if possible.
4. An assessment of differentiation, emotional cutoffs, traumas/suicides/addiction/other physical or mental illness

Submit your genogram and your paper. The genogram can be handwritten and scanned, done as a PDF, or done using Word tools. You can go directly to the GenPro Software website to download a trial version of the software.
