We have been reading about Reyna Grande’s experience as a young child being left behind while her parents made new lives in el otra lado. Reyna and her siblings, Mago and Carlos, exhibit tremendous resilience in the face of hardships. Together, the three survive poverty, a mean grandmother, and abandonment. Tara Yosso in her article, “Whose Culture has Capital?†examines the wealth that exists within marginalized communities but often goes unnoticed by the dominant, White group.
