The principle of vicarious liability refers to the concept that an employer is liable for any wrong committed by employees during the course of his or her employment. For an employer to be vicariously liable the following criteria must be met. The offence must have taken place during the period of employment; the offence must have taken place while the employee was performing his or her duties at work.

Some of the areas of training that require continuous planning and updating  due to vicarious  liability concerns are  sexual harassment .The  employee who committed  the sexual harassment  is required to abide by the employer’s  code and conduct and he or she had been trained on sexual harassment and bullying. The other area of training is online or face to face compliance training as well as training on the organization’s code of conduct.

The needs and foci  of the training designed  to address this areas of concern is to ensure that  the employers have taken  all the necessary steps  to prevents such actions from happening .This can be done by ensuring  he or she maintains  an up to date  equal opportunity policy as well as  offering  anti-discrimination training to staff so as to portray  commitment  towards eliminating discriminatory practice in the workplace.

Some of the  forms of training that  utilizes advanced technology  which  are  designed to meet  the training needs of the  department  are as follows; scheduled courses, they normally involve participants who are from different companies  and this gives them a chance to exchange ideas. The other form is online training which is normally held on demand and the final form is customized training where one  chooses the  scope, content  and location of training (Nazarko, 2004).
