The Nurse Leader As Knowledge Worker

The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by management consultant and author Peter Drucker in his book, The Landmarks of Tomorrow (1959). Drucker defined knowledge workers as high-level workers who apply theoretical and analytical knowledge, acquired through formal training, to develop products and services. Does this sound familiar?

Nurses are very much knowledge workers. What has changed since Drucker’s time are the ways that knowledge can be acquired. The volume of data that can now be generated and the tools used to access this data have evolved significantly in recent years and helped healthcare professionals (among many others) to assume the role of knowledge worker in new and powerful ways.

In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to assume the role of knowledge worker. You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation with an infographic (graphic that visually represents information, data, or knowledge. Infographics are intended to present information quickly and clearly.) to educate others on the role of nurse as knowledge worker.

Reference: Drucker, P. (1959). The landmarks of tomorrow. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers.

To Prepare:

  • Review the concepts of informatics as presented in the Resources.
  • Reflect on the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
  • Consider how knowledge may be informed by data that is collected/accessed.

The Assignment:

  • Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.
  • Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.
  • Develop a simple infographic to help explain these concepts.

NOTE: For guidance on infographics, including how to create one in PowerPoint, see “How to Make an Infographic in PowerPoint” presented in the Resources.

  • Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses.

Thus, review the literature on memory loss and use at least two peer-reviewed articles that can answer the questions above. Although your opinion is valuable and always welcome, it needs to be supported by scientific evidence.
  • Express your thoughts about how the movie could have more realistically depicted memory loss, its cause(s), time-course, and prognosis.
  • Describe the memory loss featured in the selected movie as well as discussing its accuracy Keep in mind that accuracy refers to the description of symptoms, potential cause(s), prognosis and actual time-course.

Principles Of Accounting

Introduce yourself to your classmates with your name, location, current employment, and future goals. After introducing yourself, discuss how accounting affects your everyday life. Give an example of a time in your life (or the life of a family member or friend) when accounting affected the outcome of a decision.

Please include the name of the person or question to which you are replying in the subject line. For example, “Tom’s response to Susan’s comment.”

ALSO PLEASE REPLY TO ANOTHER STUDENTS COMMENT BELOW

Hello Everyone! My name is Tim, and I currently live in Dieterich, IL , which is a small town just outside of Effingham, IL. I currently work for Patterson Technology as a Scrum Master working within multiple software development teams. My future goals are to eventually complete my degree and work within project management and hopefully lead one of the many projects that are ongoing within this company.

I think accounting comes into everyday experiences when living within the means that are provided for yourself. Its imperative to know the amount of money you earning vs what you are spending. My wife and I built our home in 2017, and one major factor of accounting influence which bank we were going to process our mortgage through. One bank in town was going to add additional fees which summed up to 4-5 thousand more over the life of the loan, due to them being able to outsource the loan to a third party, so we opted to save that money and located a bank that actually was able to provide a lower APR along with not having any fees, and the loan will always stay with them!

Controversial Topics In Human Services

Research published viewpoints, found in no fewer than two scholarly sources or other credible sources, regarding the pros and cons of legalization of marijuana from the perspective of the human services discipline and profession. Based on these sources, your required readings on controversial issues and marijuana legalization, and reflections on your values and ethics, write an initial post to the forum identifying and evaluating one or more implications of this issue for the provision of human services.

Then, apply these reflections to a fictional or real (if you happen to know of one) case study concerning a human services client who is a heavy marijuana user. Specify gender, age, and related environmental and personal issues and circumstances, such as: Is this a legalized state? Is the client’s use related to a medical and/or psychological need? How is the client claiming to get the money for the marijuana?

In your initial post, address the following:

  • Describe how the issue of legalization and its controversial character affect your professional responsibilities broadly and your practice with regard to the client.
  • Provide one or more examples describing how you, as a human services provider, would act in response to specific scenarios that might come up in practice, assessing how social factors, legal factors, and/or the larger moral context might create tensions or a conflict with respect to values.
  • Tie in this scenario (or scenarios) with conceptual discussions and arguments put forth in your sources, describing how your (fictional or actual) experience is informed and explained by the literature and this week’s readings.

Public Health And Environment

Option # 1: Finding Partners

Most community action plans can benefit from recruiting partners—individuals or organizations that might help with the solution to the public health issue. These partners may have money, special tools or skills, and other resources.

Create a list of at least 10 local partners who might be willing to help you implement or develop your own Community Action Plan. Look ahead to Chapter 8 in your text for more details about how to identify stakeholders in your chosen community. Your list must include the potential partner’s name, comprehensive contact information (job title, address, phone, website, and any assistants’ names), and a short explanation of why you think he/she/it would be useful to your project. List why you think that particular partner might be interested in joining your effort—that is, what is the benefit to the partner in doing so?

Your partners could come from the following (don’t be limited by this list):

  • Government officials (state, regional, local or federal)
  • Local health/public health department agent(s)
  • Non-profits or non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Think broadly.  For example, consider national and local organizations (e.g., men’s and women’s organizations, schools, government-funded services, and volunteer organizations).
  • Businesses. Businesses often help fund or implement community projects.
  • Schools.  Colleges or universities may have grants, special departments, or clubs/organizations.
  • Churches or faith-based organizations

How To Study More Effectively: Putting Knowledge Of Memory Functioning To Work

In this discussion forum, you will explore the imperfect content of our memories of experiences. For your initial post, complete the following steps:

In the videos, Loftus describes the ease with which false memories can be created or altered. Yet people like Paul Shanely are incarcerated, convicted of heinous crimes based on the testimony of men who have claimed to have repressed memories of years of childhood sexual abuse until adulthood. The two sides of the argument are referred to as “The Memory Wars.” For this discussion, choose one of the following prompts:

  • Analyze both sides of the Shanely case. Which side is best supported by the scientific evidence? Which one do you support and why?
  • Analyze the case of the Ramona family. How could the daughter repress such memories for so long? Does the fact that her father successfully sued the therapist prove that the memories are false?
  • Analyze the case of Jennifer Thompson-Cannino and Ronald Cotton. How is it possible to be so sure that you recognize a face when it is not the right person?
  • Provide an overview of Loftus’ research. How does that prove (or not) that memories can be created or altered?

Use your critical thinking skills and present a cogent analysis and argument for the position you choose to defend. Support your points with evidence from at least one peer-reviewed research article. Your initial post must be a minimum of 300 words.
