Annotated Bibliography and Reflection

During the last seven weeks of class, you have been asked to read several journal articles. You have also been asked to reflect on your cultural identity as you consider the many levels that constitute your identity. You also considered attribution, dialectics and how all of this is applied to interpersonal communication. For our final assignment, you will choose four articles from the articles you have been asked to read in class and/or from the article list provided for the Week 6 assignment and you will complete three items for each.

1.     Complete an APA reference for the article

2.     Complete an annotation of the article.

  • The annotation is not a summary or paraphrase. In this paragraph, you will interpret and evaluate the contents of the article itself. It is a narrative paragraph of about 100 words providing information and assessment about the article.

3.     Write a reflection of your own intercultural communication connecting the information from the article as it applies to you personally (This section only can be written in first person).

  • In this paragraph of about 100 words, relate the information that you have evaluated in the article to your own cultural identity and intercultural communication. This is a reflective piece where you are able to connect the information in theory to an understanding of your own identity.

DISCLAIMER:Originality of attachments will be verified by Turnitin. Both you and your instructor will receive the results.

Public Health Research (Information Bias)

n your review and critique of the research of other public health professionals, you may find evidence not only of selection bias but of information bias as well. Information bias results from errors made in the collection of information obtained in a study. For example, participants’ self-report of their diet may be inaccurate for many reasons. They may not remember what they ate, or they may want to portray themselves as making healthier choices than they typically make. Regardless of the reason, the information collected is not accurate and therefore introduces bias into the analysis.

Knowing how to analyze information biases in reported research or your own studies allows you to assess whether or not you believe study results are valid given the information collected. This can guide the application of evidence-based practice as well as your own research agenda.

For this Discussion, you will be assigned one a article (attached; please submit your discussion posts individually. As you review the article you have been assigned, consider elements in the study design that might indicate information bias. Think about how the researchers did or did not guard against information biases in their study design.

Post  an explanation of possible information bias in the study, including the effect that the measurement error may have had on study results and interpretation. Then explain whether or not information bias was effectively minimized in the study. Finally, provide one alternative method for minimizing information bias and explain how the method might minimize error.

Problem Solving: Popular Beliefs And Evidence

In this discussion forum, you will assess the validity of popular assumptions and beliefs about problem solving. Please note that your answers need be supported by scientific evidence. For your initial post, complete the steps below:

1. Watch the video, Rory Sutherland: Sweat the Small Stuff (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., on how simplicity can benefit problem solving.

Topic: Laypersons and scientists alike often report that after having tried to solve a problem for an entire day, “sleeping on it” led to a solution. Does sleep indeed promote problem solving?

  • 1. Select a theoretical view/model of problem solving (e.g., Gestalt psychology, information processing approach, etc.). What is the evidence that supports it? What evidence, if any, does not fit the model?
  • 2. Are experts better at solving problems than non-experts? If so, what is responsible for experts’ superior performance? Is their superiority general or limited to their field of expertise?
  • 3. Are there individual differences in problem-solving abilities? For instance, is working memory’s capacity linked to one’s ability to solve problems?

After you select a topic, access the Ashford University Library and Google Scholar and review the literature on problem solving. Then select a research article that answers the questions related to the selected topic. Finally, share the evidence you have uncovered and your critical examination of such evidence with the class. Your initial post must be a minimum of 300 words.

Confidence Intervals in Healthcare Administration

Healthcare administration leaders are asked to make  evidence-based decisions on a daily basis. Sometimes, these decisions  involve high levels of uncertainty, as you have examined previously.  Other times, there are data upon which evidence-based analysis might be  conducted.

This week, you will be asked to think of scenarios where building and  interpreting confidence intervals (CIs) would be useful for healthcare  administration leaders to conduct a two-sided hypothesis test using  fictitious data.

For example, Ralph is a healthcare administration leader who is  interested in evaluating whether the mean patient satisfaction scores  for his hospital are significantly different from 87 at the .05 level.  He gathers a sample of 100 observations and finds that the sample mean  is 83 and the standard deviation is 5. Using a t-distribution, he  generates a two-sided confidence interval (CI) of 83 +/- 1.984217  *5/sqrt(100). The 95% CI is then (82.007, 83.992). If repeated intervals  were conducted identically, 95% should contain the population mean. The  two-sided hypothesis test can be formulated and tested just with this  interval. Ho: Mu = 87, Ha: Mu<>87. Alpha = .05. If he assumes  normality and that population standard deviation is unknown, he selects  the t-distribution. After constructing a 95% CI, he notes that 87 is not  in the interval, so he can reject the null hypothesis that the mean  satisfaction rates are 87. In fact, he has an evidence-based analysis to  suggest that the mean satisfaction rates are not equal to (less than)  87.

For this Discussion, review the resources for this week, and consider  how a CI might be used to support hypothesis testing in a healthcare  scenario.

By Day 3

Post a description of a healthcare scenario where a  CI might be used, and then complete a fictitious two-sided hypothesis  test using a CI and fictitious data.

Humanitarian Emergencies

On the basis of your research, create a 3-page report that addresses the following:

· How is the human rights–based approach (HRBA) necessary in these instances, or is it?

· What is an example of a complex humanitarian emergency in which the elements of the article apply? Discuss any ethical or unethical issues that may have arisen from this issue.

· How do the elements illustrated in this article relate to the 10 Essential Public Health Services?

Be sure to support your points for each of the components in parentheses with data from the program and outside research.

CORPORATE AVIATION PROPOSAL

Review the following details and also check the outline attached. Please complete the assignment according to outline

Prepare a 5-page report proposing a corporate flight department for the company executive. The proposal should be professional and must include graphics and diagrams. The proposal may be either APA or in a professional business proposal format (maybe use a template from Microsoft Word or equivilant). Four references, including the textbook, are required and must be formatted in current APA format, regardless of paper formatting.

The company is a large engineering firm based in Lynchburg. The firm employs 400 workers, including sales and engineering staff. The sales staff averages thirty 2–3-day trips a year, with 3–5 employees on each trip. Most of the sales trips are within a 500-mile radius of Lynchburg.

The engineering staff is involved in site inspection and pop-up troubleshooting trips. The engineer trips range from a day to 3 weeks, within the same 500 mile radius. Usually 2 engineers go on these trips about twenty times a year. The company is currently spending $280,000 a year on travel expenses.

The report should include a description and justification for the following areas:

· Why would the company benefit from corporate aviation?

· Analyze current travel needs

· Anticipate future travel needs

· Offer a solution for the company

· Aircraft

· Characteristics that make that aircraft an ideal choice

· Acquisition cost of aircraft

· Operating costs of the aircraft

· Flight department operations

· How would operations be set up?

· How to handle maintenance?

· Contingency plans

Remember, all assertions require arguments. Do not just say the aircraft saves time and money. The company executive will want to know just how much time and how much money.

Childhood Development Project

CHFD 215 – Final Project

A local social service agency has asked you to create a pamphlet or PowerPoint Presentation to educate the community about an issue related to Child Development. Using research in the lesson material as your main source, plus at least two additional resources, put together an informational guide about any issue from the lesson material that has to do with Child Development. Some examples are teen pregnancy, challenges and tips for parents during a stage of development, (prenatal, infancy and toddlerhood, early childhood, middle childhood, or adolescence), peer pressure, kids and social media, children with special needs, etc.

Prepare a pamphlet or PowerPoint that covers the following:

  • Start off by introducing the issue. Give a brief summary about it that includes facts, statistics, etc.
  • Who is affected by the issue and how?
  • What theories/concepts from the lesson material can help parents, caregivers, and/or professionals better understand the issue?
  • What can parents, peers, and/or professionals do to help with this issue?
  • What resources are available in your community to assist with this issue? If you can’t find anything locally, broaden your search to state and national services. Share at least 2 resources that offer help for the issue. Make sure to include the name of the agency, a summary of the services they provide, and contact information.
  • Provide a brief conclusion of your presentation or informational pamphlet.
  • Provide a summary for your instructor. You may share what you learned by completing this assignment, any challenges you faced, any information you didn’t agree with, and/or any other relevant information you’d like to share.

If you make a pamphlet it should be 1-2 pages in length. While graphics are appreciated, they shouldn’t be your focus. Your pamphlet needs to clearly cover the required material.

If you make a PowerPoint it should be 10 slides minimum (not including a Title and Reference slide) and include notes at the bottom to clearly explain the bullet points.

PowerPoint Presentation Injuries Related To Hazardous Conditions

In Chapter 2 facilities and equipment are discussed. Injuries often occur because of poor facility maintenance and faulty equipment. These types of injuries can easily be prevented.  In this activity you will consider issues created by hazards common to facilities and equipment used in a sport you would like to coach. Please develop a power point that describes the sport chosen, the type of facility and equipment used, and at least 2 injuries that are directly related to hazardous conditions, poorly maintained facilities, or damaged equipment–do NOT describe ill-fitting shoes, poorly-sized helmets, choosing to not use safety equipment, etc.--these are human errors and not appropriate for this assignment.  You must clearly link the facility/equipment hazards to specific injuries common to participation in that sport. Lastly, describe how you would address these issues (hazards) as a coach to prevent the injuries chosen. The injuries and prevention strategies chosen must clearly relate to the physical hazards described–thisconnection is the entire point of the assignment. Your PPT should also include a minimum of 3 graphics.  I will be looking for the correct use of anatomical terms when describing the injuries (don’t just write their names), a detailed look at potential hazards chosen, and your method of preventing injuries.  If you are unsure if you’ve chosen “good” hazards, send me a message and ask.  Upload the assignment as a PDF file.

Understanding Experiments In Cognition

It is reasonable to admit that in four weeks you have been exposed to a great deal of information about the human mind! This assignment will give you the opportunity to examine how the knowledge that you have acquired during the past weeks may tie together. You will explore a phenomenon that interests you, highlight the methodologies used to study it, uncover the results obtained, and assess the validity of the knowledge acquired. These activities will make you aware of the intrinsic relationship between knowledge of specific mental and behavioral phenomena, as well as the limitations of the techniques used to study them. Knowledge in cognitive psychology is largely gathered by means of experiments. Thus, it is important that you become intimately familiar with this data-gathering method. The goal of the assignment is to ensure that you have a good understanding of specific cognitive psychological phenomena as well as experiments that are often used to investigate such phenomena. Abide by the instructions listed below:

  • Watch the video, Experimental Research Methods in Psychology (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., on the experimental method.
  • Go to the Ashford University Library or Google Scholar and select a peer-reviewed article on a topic of interest among those discussed in our class. If you prefer, you may select an article from the recommended resources.
  • Describe the main research questions that the study attempts to answer. Keep in mind that a description of the main question of the study entails an explanation of the importance of the question (i.e., illustrates the gap in the existing literature).
  • State the main hypothesis (prediction) made by the researchers.
  • Identify the key variables.
  • Describe the critical characteristics of both the participants and the procedures used.
  • Summarize the main findings. How do these findings answer the question that the researchers formulated in the introductory section of the article?
  • Explain the extent to which the findings answer the research question. Do the findings support their research question (or prediction)?
  • Illustrate the weaknesses and strengths of the selected study. For instance, ask yourself questions such as the following:
    • Is the technique used to understand the selected phenomenon able to gather adequate information about it?
    • How does this technique compare to other techniques used in cognitive psychology?
    • Do the findings of the selected study generalize to individuals who may be different from those who participated (young versus older adults)?
  • Please note that research articles often contain more than one study. Thus, in this assignment, you are given the opportunity to describe each experiment separately or focus on what you believe to be the most significant experiment.

Your paper must begin with an introduction to the selected topic in which you define the research question and all concepts that will be discussed in the paper. For instance, let us assume you select the article by Strayer and Johnston “Driven to Distraction: Dual-Task Studies of Simulated Driving and Conversing on a Cellular Telephone” as the topic of your paper. Then your task is to state the question the researchers want to answer and define the terms attentiondivided attention, and distraction.

Your paper requires a brief summary of the content of the selected article according to the guidelines described above. It also requires a conclusion expressing your thoughts about the strengths and weaknesses of the available evidence. If possible, suggest the course that future research should take if the answer to the selected question is less than conclusive.

Multiple Regression Moderation Or Mediation In SPSS

NOTE** You will choose either moderation or mediation for your statistics assignment where you conduct an analysis in SPSS. You need to use the other test for your journal article critique this week. This means if you do moderation in your SPSS assignment then you would choose an article for the journal article critique assignment where the author(s) used mediation. If you choose mediation for your SPSS assignment, then you would choose an article where the author(s) used moderation.

To prepare

· Review the datasets provided. ( Attached)

· Construct a research question based on one of those datasets.

· Use either moderation or mediation in your multiple regression analysis to answer your research question.

Assignment #1

Based on the research question you created, complete the following tasks:

1. Fit a multiple regression model, testing whether a moderating or mediating variable affects the relationship between the predictor and the outcome variable. Think about whether or not the model will meet assumptions.

2. Fit the model, testing for moderation or mediating relationship between variables.

3. Analyze the output, determining whether moderation or mediation was statistically significant and how to interpret that result.

4. Reflect on possible implications of social change.

Write a 1- to 2-paragraph analysis in APA format that includes your data output and addresses each of the tasks listed above.

(A helpful guide on Moderation is provided)
