Each student will be required to complete the term project, which is a research proposal written in an APA Style. The project should have at least 8-10 pages of substance not counting the cover and reference page. Please include a Cover Page, an abstract and a list of references. The research proposal you write in this course will NOT be sent to the IRB for approval. This is because you will not be conducting actual research for the purposes of this class. You will however gain an insight as to how to write a research proposal.

Each student will be required to complete a research proposal, as the term project. The research proposal will include the following:

• Title page

• Abstract (100-120 words)

• Introduction

• Hypothesis/Problem Statement/Purpose Statement

• Literature Review and Definitions included in research

What is a leadership intervention?

What is a leadership intervention?

The term “intervention” refers to a set of sequenced, planned actions or events intended to help an organization increase its effectiveness. Interventions are often facilitated by outside organizational development consultants or employees within the organization who have the competencies associated with a trusted change agent. In this case, you are going to take the role of an outside consultant.

Interventions can be done at the individual level, team level, and organizational level. What is important to keep in mind is the objective of all interventions is to help improve the effectiveness of individuals, groups, teams, and organizations.

An intervention strategy can be relatively simple in terms of one initiative to address a problem. For example, a company develops a safety committee after this was identified as an operating deficiency. However, most intervention strategies are more complex and have more than one initiative or sub-strategies which make up one large strategy. The complex approach is what you will do for your Prison X – Leadership Intervention Strategy for this course.

Components to Include in the Project

Your deliverable for Week 1 of the project constitutes a case overview and an initial analysis of specific critical issues, needs, and challenges that may be affecting this organization and its culture.

Tasks:

Read the CASE (attached) of Prison X – Leadership Intervention Strategy.

Summarize the Case Scenario

  • Provide a background of the purpose for intervention.
  • Summarize the key facts of the case.

Conduct a Needs Analysis

  • Analyze the specific critical issues, needs, and challenges that may be affecting this organization and its culture.
  • Generally, evaluation of topics and sources should include four or five resources and one or two pages of analysis.

As you started identifying various sources of water for the hazard in the Unit 3 assignment that has a Needed Fire Flow (NFF) of 3,000 GPM, you determined the issues with the streams that you wanted to draft from. Luckily you found two hydrants that are available within 500 feet of the building and your department utilizes 5 inch hose. With this in mind you decide that you want to do a flow test on each hydrant to help determine the water availability for the department to use.

After you test each hydrant you come up with the following flows:

Hydrant 1

Static Pressure reading: 120 psi

Residual Pressure reading: 20 psi

Flow or Nozzle Pressure reading: 30 psi

Hydrant 2

Static Pressure reading: 140 psi

Residual Pressure reading: 40 psi

Flow or Nozzle Pressure reading: 45 psi

Using the information above, complete a 1,050–1,400 word paper that addresses the following:

The flow rate in GPM for each hydrant that was tested off the 2.5 inch discharge (explain your answer for each hydrant, showing your work)

The step-by-step process you used to test each hydrant
What equipment you used
When the best time to test a hydrant is description

Economic Risk And Foreign Investment

Assessing the political, legal, and economic business environment is  an important activity as the accurate evaluation of these factors can  have an impact on business decisions and the resulting outcome. In this  Assignment you have the opportunity to apply research into these areas  to apply it to summarize a recommended course of action to management.

As owner of an American-based t-shirt distribution business, you have  an opportunity to acquire a competing t-shirt manufacturing facility  based in another country (use the country you chose for your Unit 5  journal research). The acquisition price is below book value. After  completing some marketing research, you must make a recommendation to  your management team in favor of acquisition or against acquisition  based on your assessment of the political, legal, and economic climate  in your chosen country. In this Assignment, you should use your research  from your Unit 5 Journal entry to develop an informative essay addressing the checklist items below.

Please use chapter 2 of our Communication in the Real World: An Introduction to Communication Studies textbook, the Tedx Talk The Science of Stereotypes by Jason Keith and the YouTube video Threats of Stereotypes to answer the following questions:

Question 1

As you have read this week in Section 2.1 of the Communication in the Real World book, the perception process happens fast! In the moment it can seem almost instantly.  We know now though, that we can break the process down into steps.

Name the 3 steps of the perception process. Provide an example of each step and explain how your example fits the definitions of the steps.

Insert your answers below. If you need more space, the box will automatically expand as you hit Enter.

Question 2

The two videos showed us how our perceptions can be dangerous.  Stereotypes can be innocent, such as all birds can fly as all birds have wings, but not all can fly. Other times stereotypes can be very harmful to our relationships with those in our lives.

In your own words, explain why stereotypes can be a problem.  Provide an original example of a problematic stereotype.

Insert your answer below. If you need more space, the box will automatically expand as you hit Enter.

Question 3

There are many things around us that influence our perceptions.  Section 2.2 of the Communication in the Real World book you should have a good idea of things that influence your own perceptions.

List 4 things from Section 2.2 that can influence our perception.Provide an example of it from your own life.

Insert your answers below. If you need more space, the box will automatically expand as you hit Enter.

Question 4

The good news is that as most things in communication can be learned, we can improve our perception as well.  Section 2.4 of the Communication in the Real World book, talks about this.

Describe the way or ways you believe you need to most improve how you perceive others.  Explain what you can do to change these perceptions.

Insert your answer below. If you need more space, the box will automatically expand as you hit Enter.

Health Promotion for Multicultural Populations

Consider this scenario: (The scenario could have considered any population located within any community, work site, school, or health care program setting.)

Mortality and morbidity from health-related causes have been increasing for the past several years among several population groups living in a large multicultural metropolitan community. The local health jurisdiction, private providers, voluntary agencies, and community members are very concerned and want to reduce the number of deaths and illnesses drastically. Local government officials recognize that increased screening, referral, and treatment programs are critically needed for identifying problems. Limited monies are available for providing health promotion and education programs to selected multicultural target groups.

Select a specific target group in a specific geographical area in your county as a frame of reference to work from.

How would you involve those affected by the problem?

· How would you identify opportunities for Community-based Participatory Research (CBPR) in health promotion program planning?

· How would you assess community capacity as relevant to the program planning effort?

· Describe the dynamic relationship between program planning, evaluation, and implementation.

· How would you assess the needs of the community or target populations?

· How would you diagnose and prioritize health-related concerns (problems and needs) in the community?

· How would you assess the specific health promotion and education needs of the target group (i.e., targeted assessment)?

· How would you use and apply your knowledge about the predisposing, enabling, and reinforcing factors to assist with your planning team identify the target group and select possible program intervention activities?

· What levels of change would be sought in your program?

· What specific health promotion and education program goals and objectives would be included in your hierarchy?

· What factors would you consider relevant to identifying health promotion program intervention activities that would consider the special needs of the target group, the health problem, and setting?

· What levels of evaluation (i.e., impact, outcome, process, and formative) would you use for assessing your previously stated program objectives?

Nutrition and Health

Create a profile of the nutrition habits of two countries.

On the basis of your research, create a 2-page report that answers the following questions:

· What are the main sources of food for these countries? What are gaps in nutrition for these countries?

· How do social, political and cultural factors affect access to adequate nutrition in each country?

· Are there groups within the populations of each country that are affected at greater rates? Who are they? Why do you think this is?

· Does this affect other health issues in each country? How?

Be sure to support your points for each of the components in parentheses with data from the program and outside research.

Elements Of Nutrition Discussion

Complete a 3 Day Food Diary.  Choose three days, including two weekdays and one weekend day as close together as possible, and write down everything that you eat and drink and the quantity in common household measurements.  Try to eat as normal as possible these days.  (You will not be graded on how healthy your diet is.)  Be sure to include everything such as condiments, sauces, beverages, etc.  Try to write what you’ve eaten or drank immediately after you have consumed it.  It can be difficult to accurately recall what you have consumed and how much from days previous or at the end of the day.

Food logs should be typed and submitted into Assignments.  Each day should be clearly labeled with the day of the week and the actual date the log was taken. You must include current dates within the session dates of this course. You will receive no credit (0 for the assignment) if the dates do not fall within the dates for this course session.  Below the date include one line for each food item and the quantity consumed.

For example:

Day of the Week – Month Day, Year

Cheerios – 1 cup

2% Milk – 1 cup

Apple – 1 small

Meal Planning For Lipids

Respond to the following questions in complete sentences and paragraphs. This section should be at least 200 words.

  • What is the AMDR for fat in the diet?
  • What was your perception of dietary fat before reading this week’s resources?
  • How has your perception changed?

Below is a sample one-day menu for Mrs. Smith. Her doctor just told her she is at risk for developing heart disease since her cholesterol is a little high. The doctor has asked her to meet with a registered dietitian to learn more about heart-healthy fats to include and which unhealthy fats to avoid. She hopes to meet with a dietitian next week, but in the meantime, she needs help making these changes.

List five suggestions for Mrs. Smith’s diet. Provide only changes that address the goals with her meal planning as mentioned above. Tell her which food she should omit and with what you would replace it. You may also change portion sizes. Highlight (yellow only please) or bold the item you are changing and then write the change next to that. You may make more than five changes, but if you do, you will only receive full credit when all changes correctly match the assigned directions.
