The four parts ofthe Christian biblical narrative are creation, fall, redemption and restoration. Creation, summedup in Genesis 1 and 2 in the word shalom. Peace. Earth was full of peace and everything according to God’s intention and the world was made for human growth; worshiping God by loving Him and one another forever. Fall, this was Adam and Eves rejection of God’s rule over them; their rebellious choice as “the fall,” and because the represented all of humanity, their action affects us too and this rebellion action resulted in physical and spiritual death. Redemption, this pertains toGod implementing a master plan for redeeming His world and saving fallen sinners. God Himself comes to renew the world and restore His people through his son Jesus Christ. Restoration, it Gods promised to renew the world, and the Bible talks about Christ returning to judge sin and evil, and He will usher in righteousness and peace and God will purge this world of evil forever.

Sickness and death naturally come to all because we are broken people living in a broken world. We get sick and die because we are imperfect human beings. There are scriptures related to the reason for sickness and disease. Paul declared that the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23). This death refers to spiritual death but also to the eventual physical death that comes to all mankind. To stop all sickness and death would require God to stop the world as we know it today. One day Jesus said that He would come again and set up His kingdom here upon the earth and remove all things that offend out of this world (Matt. 13:41).

God sometimes allows sickness so that His purposes might be fulfilled. Jesus said that one man was born blind so that, “the works of God should be revealed in him” (John 9:3). Other times Jesus said that it was to bring glory to God when He healed the person (John 11:4). Therefore, you can be assured of one thing, that God is working out His purpose in your life through this sickness.

Sickness and disease or the reason for it may not be something we will ever understand, it is our responsibility to have faith and trust in God in everything.
